Is the PlayStation 5 Worth Getting Right Now?

The PlayStation 5 released in November of 2020, but my husband and I just barely bought one! Between super high prices of $500 plus and how hard buying a PlayStation 5 is (due to everyone trying to get a hold of it), gamers may be wondering if it might be more beneficial to wait it out and buy a PlayStation 5 once its been out for a while. Here are my thoughts when it comes to buying a PlayStation 5.

There Aren’t Many PlayStation 5 Games Out Yet

My husband and I bought the PlayStation 5 mostly because a lot of games we’re interested in are going to be coming out on that console, such as “Horizon Forbidden West” and (hopefully) “Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part Two”. However the most popular games aren’t going to be released for a while. There are some games out right now, such as the “Spider-Man: Miles Morales” DLC and “Sackboy: A Big Adventure”, but the selection of PlayStation 5 games currently available is limited. If you’re buying a PlayStation 5 to play a specific game, it might be beneficial to wait until that game comes out to buy yourself a PlayStation 5. Otherwise you might have a game console and no games (that interest you at the moment) to play.

The PlayStation 5 DOES Play PlayStation 4 Games!

Even though there aren’t a ton of PlayStation 5 games to play at the moment, you could play PlayStation 4 games on your PlayStation 5! If you don’t have a PlayStation 4 already, and you’re wanting a PlayStation 5, you could buy some popular PlayStation 4 games like: “Horizon Zero Dawn”. Many popular games on the PlayStation 4 are going to have sequels on the PlayStation 5. So if you don’t already own a PlayStation 4, I would highly recommend buying a PlayStation 5 so that you can play really popular PlayStation 4 games AND really popular PlayStation 5 games that will be released later, like “Horizon Forbidden West”.

What Makes the PlayStation 5 Special?

The PlayStation 5 has some new features that are pretty cool! The PlayStation 5 controller has haptic feedback, which means that whatever is happening in the game will reflect in the vibrations and sounds coming out of your controller. My husband and I were trying out “Astros Playroom” a game that comes with the PlayStation 5, and that game has a TON of haptic feedback to show players what the PlayStation 5 is capable of. When we would click bumpers and triggers, that side of the controller would vibrate and jolt suddenly. When we would draw on the touchpad, our drawings would appear on our TV! At one point a bunch of tiny robots were stuck inside our controller, and when we would tilt the controller from side to side we could hear them roll around!

While some people don’t like the design of the PlayStation 5, I personally am a fan of it! I think the white color is very sleek, and I think the wings and unique shape give it a futuristic vibe! I think the controller is also very well designed, and that PlayStation makes the best controllers when it comes to fitting perfectly in the hands of gamers!

Besides the nice new controller, the PlayStation 5 also has better graphics with ray-tracing! These enhanced graphics really make for a more interesting gaming experience, and allow the player to dive even deeper into the context and story of their game.

Conclusion

Honestly right now the PlayStation 5 is REALLY hard to get. We had to wait for several weeks before our order even arrived! Everyone wants the PlayStation 5 right now, and it has become the fastest-selling console ever in the United States. But just because everyone wants the PlayStation 5 right now, doesn’t mean YOU have to get it right now. Honestly you’ll save a lot of stress by not constantly looking and trying to find the next available PlayStation 5 for sale. The only exception I would give to buying the PlayStation 5 ASAP would be if you don’t own a PlayStation 4 and haven’t played any PlayStation 4 games that are popular (like “Horizon Zero Dawn”). That way, you can have plenty of time to enjoy the original games that were popular on the PlayStation 4 BEFORE the sequels come out on the PlayStation 5. But if you’re just wanting the PlayStation 5 because you want to play some good PlayStation 5 games, you’d be better off waiting a few months.

  1. The controller on the Ps5 is excellent. I’m glad they changed it up from the ps4 controller. Much more comfortable than the ps4 controller.
